Human Services resolves Child Support payment glitch

Data transfer issues delay 8000 payments.
The Department of Human Services is conducting a root cause analysis of a data transfer glitch that delayed 8000 child support payments last week.

The glitch, first reported by News Ltd, affected the transfer of data between the department’s Child Support Agency and the Reserve Bank of Australia.

A spokeswoman for the department was unable to specify which IT components were involved in the issue.

The Reserve Bank collects and transmits payments on behalf of Government agencies. No issues were detected in its systems last week.

Human Services’ spokeswoman said the issue was identified “early last week” and resolved on Wednesday morning. It delayed a total of 8000 payments that were due to have been processed last week.

The agency processed all backlogged payments on Wednesday, she said, noting that only one percent of Child Support recipients were affected.
