Dell kills 7-inch Streak tablet

Vapourised by Fire.
Dell's 7-inch Streak Android tablet has gone the way of its 5-inch tablet, which the PC giant killed off in August.

There was no announcement, just a brief note on Dell's website that it was "no longer available online".

Unlike the 5 inch model the larger device never made it to Australia, and ends Dell's line of Android-based tablets.

However, Dell may still yet deliver its 10-inch Windows 8 compatible tablet codenamed "Peju".

The Streak's death came as US-based Evercore Partners analyst Robert Cihra predicted that Amazon's low-cost Kindle Fire will "vaporize other 'for profit' Android tablet OEM roadmaps".

Dell chief, Michael Dell, foreshadowed the Streak's demise at the Dell World conference this October when he said Android was "another opportunity as well, but that market has not developed to the expectations they would have had."

Dell also said the company was very aligned with Microsoft around Windows 8, however analysts at Forrester and now IDC doubt it will be impressive enough or arrive soon enough to really make an impact.
